For many years in the city of Jacksonville had a reputation for only sending 1 program to state that could actually win. The Bolles School were truly the only representative for the city in the state championship games. Then there was the only public school to win a state championship in Raines High School.
But, that feeling is now long gone. Trinity Christian and Mandarin High School have added to the list of schools representing the 904 area code.
In the 2025 state championship game, Raines made a huge statement by getting revenge on their 2024 state championship loss to Miami Northwestern by upsetting the Bulls in the 2025 rematch. It was huge national news.
For 2026, Edward H. White high school Commanders look to add themselves to the list. The Commanders in 2025 were the most explosive and highest scoring offense in the state of Florida. They broke the all-time record for points scored. However, even with all the points scored their season ended in round 2 of the playoffs when they were crushed by St. Augustine.
It’s 2026 and the Commanders return most of their offensive talent that is lead by 2027 quaterback King Boylston. Their offensive line is anchored by returning class of 2027 All-American Marquice Beals.
It is safe to say that rising Junior running back Rontrez Loyd will be happy to run behind Marquice Beals.
When a high-powered offense doesn’t reach the state championship game it can only mean the other side of the ball has a serious need of improvement.
Defensively the Commanders gave up almost as many points as their offense scored. The Commanders lack of linebacker play exposed a serious flaw. The opposing teams would run the ball up and down the field. Ultimately forcing the Commanders into a shootout.
Based on the Green & Gold scrimmage Ed White host every year the Commanders still need to solidify the linebacker positions this summer. The lack of tackling was very apparent from the second level of the defense.
Today at 6:30 pm, Ed White will face off against the Bolles Bulldogs. Bolles will be a perfect test for the Commanders since Bolles will have one of the best running backs in the country Xander Edwards. Edwards made headlines last year when he rushed for 522 yards and 8 touchdowns in a single game. He broke current Baltimore Raven’s running back Derrick Henry’s record.
Any wholes the defense has will be highlighted almost immediately.
Also, it is worth mentioning that Bolles also has the #2 Edge rusher in the 2028 class, Asher Ghioto. The 6’5 240lbs rusher will be lined up against Marquice Beals for this spring match up.
In order for the 2026 season to be different, Ed White has focused on updating their roster with good emerging talent. Some of these key additions already have multiple D1 offers from major programs.
My advice for Edwhite is to lock in on being the most disciplined and physical team on the field.
