Tua Tagovailoa, Dolphins fall to Kansas City 26-7

Miami Dolphins

On the first day of the NFL Playoffs, the Miami Dolphins had a chance to take the next step and beat the Super Bowl champions. However, last night was anything but the next step.

The Miami Dolphins were outplayed and out coached. In what seemed to be an even matchup turned one sided quickly. The Chiefs looked like a team that understands how to win in the playoffs.

Although the weather might have played a huge part in this matchup, the play calling by the Chief’s made the difference. In the cold weather, the Chiefs took advantage of the run game early and often. Rushing 34 times during the game for 147 yards. Isiah Pacheco ran tough all night.

Because of the solid running efforts by Pacheco, Patrick Mahomes was able to take advantage in the passing game. Mahomes had a nice performance for an opening game. Throwing for 262 yards and 1 touchdown on 41 attempts.

Granted, the Chiefs have a great tight end to throw to with Travis Kelce. However, rookie receiver Rashee Rice was the star. 8 catches for 130 yards and 1 touchdown. It was a very balanced offense that was helped by the poor tackling of the Dolphins.

What’s next for the Dolphins?

Once again, the Miami Dolphins are out of the playoffs in the first round. Last year we all thought if Tua wasn’t hurt the Dolphins would have beaten the Buffalo Bills IN 2022. In 2024, the Dolphins had Tua and still loss.

Unfortunately, the solution to the Dolphins getting over the hump in the playoffs might be looking for a new quarterback. Although I like Tua, if you were to stack him up against the other AFC starting QBs in the playoffs, he’s not on their level.

Tua went 20/39 for 199 yards with 1 touchdown and 1 interception. Completing just 51% of his passes.

Even Texans rookie C.J. Stroud looks far and away better than Tua. Earlier in the year, the Dolphins picked up Tua’s 5th year option to see if Tua can stay healthy. Now, I wonder if the Dolphins are wondering if Tua can lead them to a Super Bowl.

Dolphins 2024 NFL Draft Needs

The Dolphins can go in many directions this year for the draft. The offensive line could use an influx of talent and the defensive line could add some much need depth. Ultimately, the best option is to sure up the offensive line.

With Tua’s injury history, the Dolphins should not take any chances on his health if they believe he is their long-term option at QB. Oregon State’s Taliese Fuaga or Cooper Beebe from Kansas state would be great options as an interior offensive lineman.
